Buying guide

Durability

Sewer hoses are measured in Mils (millimeters) to measure the thickness of that vinyl. The higher the number, the better quality hose you are going to get. It will stand up to more use than thinner ones.

If you are going to RV full time, get a thicker sewer hose as you are going to constantly expand and collapse due to frequent usage.

Here is a general guideline.

12 mils of vinyl

Great for occasional camping, high tensile strength funnel.

15 Mils of vinyl

Great for seasonal camp

18 Mils of Vinyl

Great for full-time camping

23 Mils of Vinyl

Premium hose for extensive RVing

There are some RV sewer lines that have extra UV protection. This is a great feature, as it protects the hoses from breaking down easily due to prolonged sun exposure.

Portability

When not using the hose, you certainly want it out of sight and out of mind. So the size of the hose will be a consideration for you if you are using a small RV. Where space is a commodity, you will want something that easily collapses to store.

Flow and flexibility

The last thing you need is, waste still stuck in your hose for extended periods. Yuck! So look for hoses that are wide enough to accommodate all waste sizes. A general guideline is roughly 4X4 inches.

Having a flexible hose allows you to flex and adjust the hose to provide a smooth path for your waste to follow.

Length

Generally, RV hoses have an average range length of 14 to 20 feet long. The minimum you should get is 15 feet. 20 feet is great if you own a longer rig.

Otherwise, you can opt to get extensions, in case there are any discrepancies.

Fittings

Best RV Sewer Hose

There are 3 common types of fittings.

Slip Fitting

Just slip the sewer hose on the sewer outlet and tighten it down. However, sometimes it results in sewage leaking.

Bayonet Hook Fitting

Bayonet hook fittings are very commonly found in RV sewer hoses today. Hoses are pre-fitted with a plastic piece on the end of the hose with 2 or 4 small hooks around the rim. The hooks then twist and secure themselves on the buttons found on the outside of the other pipe. This provides a more watertight seal.

CAM-lock connector

This is usually found on higher-end connectors used in the liquid transportation industry. Otherwise known as a compression fitting, it uses a seal ring which is compressed using two locking mechanisms on either side of the hose. This creates a nearly guaranteed leak-proof seal.

Our Verdict

You will not go wrong with any of these top-rated RV sewer hoses, as they are one of the best RV sewer hoses compared to other options you see on the market.

  1. I have owned four RV’s and probably five different sewer hose sets. The best RV sewer hose that I used was the Camco RhinoFLEX 20-foot RV Sewer Hose Kit. I love that they extend and contract but hold that shape by popping into place instead of just stretching. I like the clear end so I can tell when the takes are rinsed thoroughly. They collapse down to a size small enough to fit into a small tote for storage.
